I really don’t understand why practically every sentence in some stories has to end in three exclamation points. If you were a student of mine, your report would contain remarks like ‘Pull up your socks’, ‘Pull your finger out’, and ‘Must do better,’ or, if I was American, ‘Get with it, for Chrissakes’

It’s totally wrong, whatever variety of English is being used – British, Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, South African, Hong Kong, and yes – even American, a variety of English wich has abandoned many of the aspects of linguistic logic, and if it goes much further will no longer deserve to be called ‘English’.
